Last Sunday was the ‘Festa del Paese’, one of the highlights of the year.
I started recording the music from 8am in the Piazza and followed them all the way round the village, including the procession. It was tiring, carrying my sound kit and camera, but fun. I got a good sense of what it’s truly like being part of a music band in Abruzzo, and also I now really understand why people were so envious of musicians in the past. Every few hundred metres we had delicious food and drinks served by the local people. Cakes, pizza, feratelle, sandwiches and bakes all accompagnied by plenty of coffee or even wine!! Back in the days, in Emilio’s days, were life wasn’t as easy as now, being fed like this must have been one of the biggest bonuses of this difficult but beautiful tradition.
Go to the sound archives page and listen to the recording in the Piazza.
